Have you ever wondered why we deal with feelings of fears? Have you thought about the fact that we are not born worrying, but have learned to worry about the future.
What causes the feelings of uneasiness and unbalance? Somewhere in our past we have experienced something that has put us in the fight, flight, or freeze mode. Going forward, something can trigger us again without us really knowing what it is and cause us to once again go into the fight, flight or freeze mode. Our subconscious is trying to protect us and can stop us from moving forward and cause anxiety.
Even though our subconscious is trying to protect us, at the same time, it can actually cause us to have anxiety worrying about what may or may not happen in the future.
I'll give you my own example of dealing with fear of driving in the rain. Twenty three years ago my husband and I were headed home on the interstate. It had just started raining and suddenly the car started to hydroplane. There was nothing we could do except let the car go where it was going. We crossed over the interstate heading into the oncoming traffic. Fortunately, we actually went between two oncoming cars and ended up on a bank on the other side of the interstate. We were not hurt but that experience stayed with me for 22 years.
After that experience, I had severe feelings of uneasiness driving in the rain. My subconscious was trying to protect me. So when it rained, I always thought that I was going to hydroplane again. That event has not happened again but I still always went into the "freeze" mode when it came to driving in the rain.
I actually had my own session which took about 30 minutes. It was not until weeks later when I was driving in heavy rain that I suddenly realized that I had been singing with the radio and had not even thought about the rain.
